Future of Farming

AG 2000 Strategic Plan
The last strategic plan written for Washington's agriculture industry was in 1988. That comprehensive document plays an important role in the current project.  Future of Farming project leaders led the original 1988 AG 2000 team through a plan review process in January 2008, 20 years after it was written.  Thus, this historical document became a living document through the Future of Farming methodology.  You can download the original Ag 2000 document as an Adobe Acrobat file here: Ag2000 Strategic Plan

Review of AG 2000 Strategic Plan
At the launch of Future of Farming, we went back to review that work from 20 years ago. Download the review here

Review of Strategic Agriculture Plans

NASS Charts 1988-2007
The USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service census data for 2007 has not yet been released, but the Future of Farming project asked NASS for some preliminary data on Washington State. Charts showing statistical data collected over the past 20 years, including farm size, land values, and acres planted and harvested for key commodities can be downloaded here

Land Statistics
American Farmland Trust used the USDA's Census of Agriculture data to create a working paper  that provides a baseline of information from which to evaluate and assess the present and future of Washington State farms and farmland. That paper can be downloaded here
