License Renewal Information

Note: Pesticide license renewals for 2008 were mailed in early-November.  If you did not receive a renewal and need one, please contact Pesticide Licensing or call toll free (877) 301-4555.

ALERT:  A small number of 2008 renewal packets contain a renewal form and/or recertification credit report for someone other than the intended recipient. If this happens to you, please email Pesticide Licensing or call toll free (877) 301-4555 so that the correct forms can be sent to you. Please report your name and license number and the name(s) and license number(s) on the misdirected forms that you received. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience.

Insurance

Reporting Equipment, Employees and Additional Business Locations

  • The 2008 Commercial Applicator renewal packet includes forms to validate your equipment, commercial operator employees and additional business locations covered by the Commercial Applicator license.  Please review all three forms, make the necessary revisions and attach to your Commercial Applicator renewal application.  If there are no changes to report, it is still important to attach the forms.

Recertification

  • Recertification credits up through June 30, 2007 are being provided on your credit report included in your license renewal packet. If you attended a class after June 30th, it will not be listed on this report.

  • You may now view your recertification status on-line. After locating your license record, click on your Commercial Applicator license.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Do I need to submit a Financial Responsibility Insurance Certificate (FRIC) with my Commercial Applicator renewal?
    You only need to submit the FRIC if your insurance has expired or will expire shortly. Just be sure that your insurance agent submits an updated FRIC prior to the expiration of the last one. Your agent can download the FRIC, complete it and send it to WSDA. WSDA can now accept copies, including faxes and emails, of the completed FRIC.

    Download a Financial Responsibility Insurance Certificate or Surety Bond form.

  2. My Commercial Applicator renewal packet included a listing of the spray equipment I last licensed. I have updated the list. What do I do with it now?
    Please send the Equipment Validation Form along with your Commercial Applicator License Renewal Application. 

  3. What happens if I have new equipment to license?
    List new spray equipment on the back of your Form A application.  You will receive a new WSDA license plate along with your 2008 Commercial Applicator business license. You may also switch a plate from an old piece of equipment you are no longer licensing to the new equipment as long as you notify WSDA. You can do this on the Equipment Validation Form or anytime during the year by completing the Supplemental Commercial Applicator Pesticide License Application.

  4. Do I have to list all the Commercial Operators employed with me or just the new employees?
    You are receiving a list of your company employed Commercial Operators and their license expiration date. Make any necessary revisions to the list by removing or adding Commercial Operator employees. Any future changes to this list must be reported to WSDA within 30 days using the Supplemental Commercial Applicator Pesticide License Application. This form should be used throughout the year to report any changes to your Commercial Applicator renewal application.

  5. Do I need to pay the penalty fee if I submit my application after January 1, 2008?
    You need to submit the penalty fee if you have acted as a Commercial Applicator in 2008 prior to submitting your renewal application. If you are submitting your renewal application and have not operated as a Commercial Applicator since January 1, 2008, you do not need to submit the penalty fee. You do need to sign the “Penalty Exemption Statement” found on the front side of your renewal form.

License Renewal Information for non-Commercial Applicators

Limited and Rancher Private Applicators

Limited and Rancher Private Applicator licenses expire the fifth December 31st after issuance so annual renewal is not necessary. For further information on these two licenses, go to WSDA’s Limited and Rancher Private Applicator Licensing Web page.

All other license types

Recertification

  1. Do I need to pay the penalty fee if I submit my application after January 1, 2008?
    You need to submit the penalty fee if you have needed your license to work in 2008 prior to submitting your renewal application. If you are submitting your renewal application and have not operated as a pesticide license holder since your last license expired, you do not need to submit the penalty fee. You do need to sign the “Penalty Exemption Statement” found on the front side of your renewal form. You need to follow the above procedure for each pesticide license that you wish to renew.

  2. How often do I need to renew my license?
    You need to renew your license each year that you perform work that requires a license. A lot of people confuse recertification requirements with license renewal requirements. You recertify every five years but you must renew your license each year you are performing work that requires a license.

  3. When do I need to complete the "Supplemental License Renewal Form" on the back of my pesticide license renewal form?
    You only need to complete the "Supplemental License Renewal Form" if you have a recertification period of 2003 - 2007 and you successfully recertified in a reciprocal state (Be sure to attach a copy of your reciprocal state's pesticide license).

  4. I have a recertification period of 2003 – 2007. According to my credit report, I do not have enough credits to recertify. What do I do?
    The first thing you should do is carefully review your credit report. Are all the classes you attended listed? Sometimes licensees forget to sign course rosters or mail in completed recertification attendance certificates. If you can provide valid confirmation of your attendance, WSDA may be able to grant you additional credits.

    Did you attend a class that did not receive credit but contained pest control related information? WSDA may be able to issue credits to such a course after the fact if you can supply a course agenda and proof of your attendance.

    Are you successfully recertifying in another state? If so, follow the instructions in your packet for renewing your license based on a reciprocal license.

    If you are still short of the credits you need to recertify, you must retest in order to maintain your pesticide license. Go to the WSDA Pesticide/SPI Licensing Web site for further information.

  5. How do I find out about recertification courses?
    All open recertification courses are listed on WSDA’s recertification Web site.

    Information on courses offered by the WSU Pesticide Education program, including on-line courses, is available at http://pep.wsu.edu/Education/educ.html.

  6. How do I learn more about the recertification program?
    Go to our license recertification Web site for information on WSDA’s recertification program.

  7. How do I sponsor a recertification program?
    Information on sponsoring a recertification course is available on our recertification Web site.

Additional Information for Structural Pest Inspectors

Please be sure that you or your employer provides WSDA with updated financial coverage information prior to the expiration of your current coverage. Commercial Applicators and Operators who only perform specific inspections are covered by valid Commercial Applicator insurance. If performing complete WDO inspections, the full SPI financial coverage is required.

Remember to use WSDA issued Inspection Control Numbers (ICNs) when performing complete WDO inspections. ICNs are available through WSDA’s automated system, accessible toll free at (877) 301-4555. Only properly licensed SPIs can obtain ICNs.
