BSE and Protecting the Livestock Feed Supply

Since 1997, the United States and Canada have banned the use of most mammalian protein in ruminant feed.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)

"Animal proteins prohibited in ruminant feed" (Title 21 Code of Federal Regulations Part 589.2000).  FDA's BSE rule for feed manufacturers, distributors, renderers, protein blenders and ruminant feeders.
